NABBC National Convention 2014

After the busiest year in the history of the NABBC, it is time to reflect, review new challenges, and to celebrate our achievements. Our 2014 Convention is now fully prepared and will take place on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th March at The Holiday Inn, Crest Way Barnwood, Gloucester, GL4 3RX.

The weekend's seminars will focus specifically on compositions, new arrangements and how to successfully communicate an entertainment programme to various audiences. Whilst composer Gavin Higgins will be reflecting on new inspirations for compositions the art of writing reports for publication will be considered by the much respected Iwan Fox – a skill which many of us have much to learn.

Performances from two of our most successful bands, the City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) Brass Band directed by Gareth Ritter and, the Clifton & Lightcliffe Brass Band directed by John Clay will feature new music and an open rehearsal of the Spring Bank Senior Trophy piece 'Les Francs Juges' (Berlioz, arr. Frank Wright). Both these bands have superb banding structures within their local communities and we all have much to learn much from both directors.

The band sessions will be overseen by NABBC president Mr Russell Gray who will ensure we all have much to think about when preparing bands for performance and when rehearsing bands with new repertoire.

We are also fortunate to have Dr Jon Hall to discuss the issues many instrumentalists and conductors have when performing. These sessions are always thought-provoking. And then, we have the return of Jim Shepherd's Versatile Brass. This will certainly be one of the highlights of the weekend.

As ever, we welcome all existing and new members. We also welcome brass and percussion instrumentalists who may wish to enjoy a variety of music making with new friends, colleagues and brass band enthusiasts.
